Tongue piercing help!! ?

I had my tongue repierced recently. I used to have it pierced before and when I took the long barbell out I put a normal one is. BUT it was tight on me. I have it pierced a little in the back. Is it supposed to be like this. What is a normal size of a tongue piercing after you get it changed. I'm afraid to out the normal barbell in because I'm afraid that it will suck the in and I will have to get surgically removed and I don't want that. In addition what kind of tongue piercing is the best. And also what kind is the best for not breaking your teeth and what not. I have the long barbell because I got my tongue pierced 7 days ago but I changed the to acrylic and they are more comftorable. What is the best metal type and acrylic and what not. Thank you
